Letter to a Black person

Dear friend,

It’s hard to write this letter because I care so much about you yet the words don’t come easy. I really want to ask, how are you? Are you ok? But in times like these it just doesn’t seem like enough. I can’t even begin to imagine how you are feeling right now and how you have been feeling for your entire life. I won’t ever know the experience of being a Black person in America, but I will try to understand, for you, my friend. You don’t have to share anything you don’t want to. You don’t have to explain anything to me because I don’t need your explanation to believe that you and others have been mistreated because of the color of your skin. I believe you. I trust you. I care about you. And I love you. Whatever you do want to share, I am more than happy to listen. And I am ready to help. So whatever you need, I am here with you. I stand with you. Let’s change the world together.

With love,

Your friend
